Dear guests, business partners, and friends,

As a result of this unprecedented crisis and the unavoidable circumstances arising out of the continued spread of COVID-19 worldwide, on March 14, 2020, the Greek Government decided the temporary closure of seasonal hotels and similar establishments in Greece until April 30, 2020 (source: ΦΕΚ857/Β/2020).

At Kallichoron Art Boutique Hotel, we recognize that these are unsettling times and we assure you the safety and wellbeing of our partners and guests is of utmost importance. Our season opening is being postponed in accordance with authorities’ orders until further notice.

We remain calm and advise you the same. Be cautious, follow closely the authorities’ orders and preventative measures, keep positive and methodically prepare for the day after. This too shall pass.

Considering the uncertainty at play, we have adapted our booking conditions and cancellation policy to reflect the evolving nature of this pandemic. As such, we have created "Kallichoron Travel Flex" policy, applicable to all prebooked and new reservations with check-in date until June 30, 2020, offering free cancellation up to 7 days before arrival, as well as free rescheduling option where needed. A full refund of any prepayment will be applied, free of any cancellation costs in situations where the guests/travelers request it.

For the time being, Astypalea remains case free and we are liaising closely with the authorities while following the World Health Organization (WHO) for updates to ensure the safety of all partners and guests and will update this communication regularly.

Our hearts and thoughts go out to the people who have been affected by this unprecedented event and we deeply appreciate the healthcare workers, local communities, and governments around the world who are on the front line working to contain this situation.

We sincerely hope that things will get back to normal as quickly as possible. At the same time, we follow the government’s guidelines, and we strongly encourage everyone to do the same.

In this reality, we are aware of travelling comes secondary. Thank you in advance for putting your trust in Kallichoron as you plan for future travels. Why in the meantime, don't you read some of our blog posts for Astypalea, and have something to look forward to for your next holiday in Greece?

Whenever you travel, we will wait with open doors and open hearts to receive you.

In the meantime, feel free to get in touch via phone, WhatsApp/Viber, or email for any further information or question.

Stay safe,
The Kallichoron team.

It is beyond question that plastic waste is one of the greatest environmental challenges facing the world. Each day, millions of plastic straws are disposed and hotels are some of the worst offenders. Microplastics are one of the most common items found on beaches, are pretty small and lightweight, can’t be recycled and are frequently mistaken for food by marine animals, causing the death of hundreds of seabirds and marine mammals annually.

This year, Kallichoron Art Boutique Hotel says no to plastic straws! In an effort to eliminate pollution caused by plastic and, Kallichoron joins the global momentum that has built in recent months to contribute towards a more sustainable and more socially responsible environment. Plastic straws have been banned from the hotel’s operations and have been replaced by biodegradable paper ones. This is a significant environmental milestone for Kallichoron to serve its guests in a more sustainable way.

Eliminating plastic straws builds on the environmental sustainability program “Kallichoron Goes Green” that is in place since 2015 and further drives the hotel’s efforts to reduce environmental impact from its operations.

“We are of the mind that every little bit helps. Together we can effect real change so that the future generations can enjoy a natural environment that is healthier than we currently find it.” said Carolina Alkalai and Maria Mavroudi, Hotel Managers of Kallichoron Art Boutique Hotel.

Kallichoron Art Boutique Hotel's management team attended the 4th "Best Practices in Customer Service" Conference organised by Boussias Communications on Thursday, March 22nd, 2018. It runs under the auspice of the Hellenic Institute for Customer Service, with more than 250 senior executives taking part.

"How does good customer service, create the right conditions in order to win "the mind and heart" of your customers?"

In response to the above question, Maria Mavroudi, Hotel Manager of Kallichoron Art Boutique Hotel, presented a case study on the importance of Branding in diversifying the travelling offering, reasons why personalised and innovative services matter, and the importance of creating authentic travel experiences.

Kallichoron Art Boutique Hotel, proud sponsor of Vivliodromies 2017 book reading contest, participated in the award ceremony that took place on Friday, 15th December 2017 at the Eugenides Foundation in Athens.

Contributing to the progress and welfare of the local community plays an integral part of Kallichoron's philosophy. Principally with the "Room2Give” Corporate Social Responsibility Programme - established in 2015, the hotel donates a percentage of each booking earnings to a number of social responsibility initiatives, mainly for children and young adults.

Eleftherios Geitonas, General Principal of Geitonas School and initiator of Vivliodromies, addressed the students and urged them to become "laborers, and defenders of a united Greek society to save [our] Greece. Vivliodromies breathe the dreams and visions of literaries, and interpret their reflections. We congratulate all the children that participated and wish them good luck. Furthermore, we congratulate the teachers and the parents that encouraged their children to cooperate. We thank Ms. Maria Mavroudi from Kallichoron who envisages great things for Astypalea. Congratulations on the investment she makes for her birthplace and in the new generation”, quoted Mr. Geitonas.

Ms. Maria Mavroudi, co-founder and Kallichoron's general manager, in her speech urged the children to dare, dream and passionately seek their own vision and move “the small world, the Great” forward as the Greek Nobel-winner poet, Odysseas Elytis, said. She congratulated all the participants including the ones receiving a distinction in Vivliodromies 20017 and declared "proud of this Knowledge and Culture unison. We feel double proud that with the backing of the Kallichoron Art Boutique Hotel’s Room2Give CSR initiative as well as the unwavering support of Geitonas Schools, the students of Astypalea will also participate in Vivliodromies”. Likewise, she thanked Geitonas School, Maria-Christina Ktistaki, President of the School Parent Group and the teacher, Giorgos Kiousis for their support.

The Geitonas School Parent Group was an active participant, with the President Maria-Christina Ktistaki declaring touched by the children's eagerness for learning and development. “In the age of rapidity and image, philanagnosia (love of reading) helps our children to dream and travel to unknown places. We have the obligation, as parents, co-readers and supporters, to establish the environment within which they can express themselves creatively, with the hope that our children will evolve into smart, good and happy people.”

Georgios Kiousis, a teacher and coordinator of the programme, stated an advocate of Kallichoron's efforts and proud "that the literary company from this year onwards will include Astypalea as well. We thank Maria Mavroudi, who ventures and aspires to make the school children “travel”, injecting life to her hometown."

The ceremony was attended by a large number of students and parents from all over Greece and Cyprus, and you can watch here a part of it.
